Telling stories to save the planet
Remember the courageous and beautiful Shahrazad in the Arabian Nights? She saved herself – and lives of many other women in her kingdom -- by telling evil King Shahriyar a captivating story every night for 1001 nights.
It’s time to once again tell stories for survival – to save ourselves from many environmental crises. We need authentic, inspiring and compelling stories that spread the knowledge, skills and attitudes to live in greater harmony with our planet.
Saving the Planet is an Asian regional media project to discover and share such stories. Specifically, it highlights innovative efforts in education for sustainable development (ESD) in developing countries of Asia.
Implemented by TVE Asia Pacific in partnership with the Asia/Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO (ACCU), the project will create a regional TV series and also train media skills of national and local organisations engaged in ESD work in Asia.
Saving the Planet is dedicated to the United Nations Decade on Education for Sustainable Development, 2005 – 2014.
